At 15:44 hrs. on September 22nd, 2008, the Autumn Equinox will take place.

An equinox in astronomy is that moment in time (not a whole day) when the centre of the Sun can be observed to be directly above the Earth’s equator.  The word equinox derives from the Latin words aequus (equal) and nox (night).
