In the renowned Cancun Hotel Zone, The Tequila Herradura Sensory Museum opened its doors to exhibit one of the most important Mexican traditions: Tequila.

Located in the Casa Herradura, the Tequila Museum features both the history and legacy of the Hacienda San José del Refugio in the town of Amatitán, located in the state of Jalisco, where this exquisite liquor was born. Thus, the museum aims to promote the tradition of the Tequila, as well as the value and quality of the Hacienda San José del Refugio products.

Through a sensory experience, the visit allows you to discover both the taste and smell of the tequilas. Visitors will explore the both the original and modern day processes of making tequila, as well as the history and legends surrounding the Agave, the four different types of Tequila in the exhibition and the Hacienda.

Tequila is Mexico´s signature drink, unique liquor with a designation of origin that involves great history and a handcraft elaboration process that’s worth exhibiting. It starts at the fermentation and distillation of the Agave juice. The designation of origin was granted in the year 1977. From that time, for a liquor to be recognized as an authentic Tequila, it has to contain at least 51% of Agave sugars. The amount of different sugars added (up to 41% of the total amount of sugars in the liquor) originates the Mixed Tequilas, in which the Agave is mixed with Corn or Sugar Cane Syrup. When 100% of the liquor’s sugar comes from the Agave, then the result is pure Tequila, which is considered the best quality.

Diamonds are widely known for being a girl’s best friend, and at the new world-class Gem Spa at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Cancún Resort & Spa, they prove to be a best friend and more by creating luminous, healing results.

The recently-opened 40,000 square-foot spa features a signature treatment menu utilizing diamond dust through exfoliation and magnetism, all designed to create glowing skin and to purify the senses.

For the third year in a row, the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau will celebrate International Whale Shark Day on August 30th, with a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the importance and need of preserving the unique species.

Back in 2008, during the International Whale Shark Conference that took place in Isla Holbox, representatives from over 40 countries formally established whale shark day to celebrate the world’s largest fish, known locally as the “Domino,” because of the white dots on their skin. On June 5, 2009, the Whale Shark Biosphere Reserve was established off the northern coast of Quintana Roo, which is where masses of the whale shark species migrate every year. Whale Shark season officially started on May 15th. But, these harmless animals that reach lengths up to almost 50 feet, feed on plankton and pass through the Caribbean waters through the month of September. The Whale Sharks impressive size and ample mouths extend approximately 5 feet, making swimming alongside these species a thrilling experience.

The Cancun Underwater Museum is a project created to help conserve the area’s natural reefs. After a $350,000 investment, Phase 1 of the project was launched in November of last year, when three sculptures by artist and sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor were submerged into the waters of the Mexican Caribbean.

Currently, preparations are underway for Phase 2, which is expected to place 400 sculptures in the National Marine Park. The sculptures will be embedded on the surface of the sand at different depths to become a part of the National Marine Park, which is officially recognized as the world’s largest underwater museum. These sculptures will be placed in the bottom of the sea, at different depths, in order to create an artificial natural habitat.
