TBEX Cancun Marked First Time Blogger Conference is Held in Latin America
The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is proud to have hosted this year’s Travel Bloggers Exchange (TBEX) North America edition, which took place September 11-13, 2014 at Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort, the destination’s largest property.
The three-day symposium, which marked the first time in TBEX’s four year history that it has taken place in Latin America, welcomed 600 attendees, including 42 prominent speakers such as Everything Everywhere blogger Gary Arndt, Lonely Planet’s Guide to Travel Writing author Don George and CREST Co-Director Dr. Martha Honey, among others. This edition of TBEX featured an impactful keynote address on sustainable tourism, thought-provoking lectures on topics ranging from Multiplatform Destination Marketing to Cashing in on Culinary Tourism, relevant workshops on writing and photography, networking opportunities and social events.
“The Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau recognizes the vital role travel bloggers play in today’s dynamic communications network,” said Jesus Almaguer, CEO of the Cancun CVB. “There was no better way to demonstrate our commitment to engage in new platforms than by being the first destination to bring this trendsetting blogger conference to Latin America. Not only did we have the opportunity to showcase Cancun’s culture, gastronomy, hospitality and adventurous spirit with hundreds of influencers, but at the same time we were also able to instantly share our product with millions of their fans and followers.”
TBEX is the world’s largest assembly of travel-focused writers, bloggers and content creators. The event allows attendees to network with other travel bloggers and social influencers, and learn about how they can improve their blogs and social media skills. Currently, TBEX hosts two annual events - one in North America and one in Europe.
The AAA Four Diamond Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort served as host hotel for the influential conference. Conveniently located just ten minutes away from the Cancun International Airport, Moon Palace boasts one of the largest, most flexible and technologically sophisticated conference facilities in Mexico.
“Palace Resorts understands and appreciates the power of social media, particularly that of the blogger community. When we were offered the opportunity to host the 2014 edition of TBEX, we whole-heartedly agreed and were eager to showcase the unmatched offerings of Moon Palace as well as the destination,” said Gibran Chapur, Executive Vice President, Palace Resorts. “We truly appreciate the unique platform TBEX 2014 provided Palace Resorts and look forward to continuing the conversation with the blogger community, both online and at our oceanfront properties.”
The event kicked off Thursday evening with a lavish Mexican-themed welcome reception at Xcaret Park where attendees enjoyed libations, dinner and live entertainment, followed by unofficial late night events throughout Cancun including those at Noir, Moon Palace’s glamorous nightclub; and Sky Bar, a chic lounge with a billiard table, expansive bar and plush seating. The conference commenced on Friday morning with opening remarks from Rick Calvert, Dr. Martha Honey and Bret Love followed by breakout sessions focusing on best practices for bloggers, marketers and social media executives and culminating in speed-dating-like networking sessions. Friday night’s Expedia hosted party took place at Moon Palace’s outdoor Moonlight Terrace. Featuring Mexican cuisine and open-bar service, the evening provided an opportunity for guests to dance the night away under the stars.
Saturday’s opening remarks were led by Lee Abbamonte, Paula Froelich and Sherry Ott, offering an opportunity for attendees to hear suggestions for monetizing their blogs, navigating the intricate world of collaborating with sponsors and more. Following were breakout sessions from Royal Caribbean’s Jeffrey DeKorte on Multi-Generational Marketing, TripIt’s Jessica Skelton on Brand Advocacy, among others.
Beyond the two-day conference, the Cancun CVB also offered more than 20 PreBex Tours to attendees who wanted a chance to explore the destination prior to the conference dates.
