13/09/2013The Cancun Lakam Center Celebrates the Success of Flight Centre Global Gathering

Flight Centre Travel Group Brought 3,000 Travel Agents to Cancun as a Reward for their Excellent Productivity

The Cancun Lakam Center hosted over 3,000 travel agents from 75 different countries at the Flight Centre Global Gathering. The event served as a celebration of the company’s top-producing travel agents from all around the world. Guests were afforded the opportunity to fully experience this worldwide tourist destination, to attend corporate ceremonies and parties, and have a great time while they learned what Cancun had to offer their customers.

Flight Centre Travel Group began as a single office in the early 1980’s and is now a $13.5 billion business and one of the world’s largest travel agency groups, maintaining company-owned operations in 11 countries and a corporate travel management network that spans more than 75 countries. It employs more than 15,000 people globally and operates approximately 2,500 individual offices.

The President of Flight Centre, Graham Turner, participated in the event and gave a warm welcome to all the participants and presenters, which included Olympic Champion Michael Phelps. Mr. Phelps and his lifelong coach spoke intimately to the crowd about their experiences in competitive swimming and offered numerous anecdotes describing how intense discipline, goal-setting and relentless training were the keys to their success.

“This is the first time this event has been held in Mexico” says Kris Dalton, Director of Production & Executive Producer for Cievents, the company in charge of organizing the event. “The flexibility and format of the Lakam Center is a great blank canvas for producers. It was a brilliant option for our Plenary Conference, our Pre-Function events, our Gala dinner (3,000 people), and finally for our celebratory concert which featured the internationally-renown performance artist, Pitbull. The scope and layout of the facility allowed us to bring a large audience to Cancun, which we have not been able to do in other international locations before. The access from the hotel area is an easy 20-minute drive and the parking facilities are ideal for such large groups. However, what really made our event successful at the Lakam Center was not only the facility, but the fantastic staff and management who truly went beyond the normal commercial scope to help us in any way they could, to ensure our audience experienced a world class event. Also, the Lakam Center partners, namely JSAV (audio / visual) and Gourmet Events (food and beverage), were equally excellent in their delivery of service and product. I would have no hesitation recommending any of these companies to prospective future clients.”

Cancun is a top destination for meetings and has hosted 55 congresses this year, with seven on the way, for a total of 62 for 2013. In addition to large venues like the Lakam Center and the Cancun Center, the destination’s hotels and resorts have also been contributors as great hosts to a wide variety of meetings due to their convenience and capacity.

Cancun will host the ISES Solar World Congress this November 3 – 7. This major international event will be hosted in Mexico for the very first time and will welcome 1,500 attendees from 120 countries to the shores of Mexico’s most popular destination, Cancun.
