Cancun is widening its reach into world-renowned gastronomy with an array of culinary activities, news and festivals that include: The 2013 Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival, Karisma Hotels & Resorts’ partnership with Jackson Family Wines, Secrets The Vine’s extensive wine collection, The Little Mexican Cooking School in Puerto Morelos and Cancun’s three AAA Five Diamond Award restaurants, the most awarded city out of any international destination this year.

The Second Annual Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival will take place between March 14 and 17. In honor of this year’s theme, “Europe Meets the Americas,” celebrity chefs Massimo Bottura from Italy and Mexican Star Chef Enrique Olvera will be honored at this year’s fest.

Over 35 events will take place during this four day festival with a list of top international chefs and sommeliers from all over the world. Confirmed chefs like Mark Ladner, Marc Vetri, Fabio Trabocchi, and Jared Reardon (from the US), Jerome Ferrer and Jean-Marc Guillot (Canada), and others will be attending. Sommeliers like Doug Frost (one of only three people in the world to hold the Master of Wine and Master Sommelier Titles), Elyse Lambert (top Sommelier of the Americas) and Veronique Rivest (Best Sommelier of Canada) will thrill wine lovers with new bouquets, pairings and more.

Karisma Hotels & Resorts, one of the CRM Festival’s sponsors, has partnered with Jackson Family Wines to feature selections at each property from the Jackson Family portfolio which includes more than 30 labels of super-premium and luxury wines.

Karisma will host The Jackson Family Wines Culinary Series, a monthly wine and food program spotlighting top chefs and wine masters from around the world.

Each month, The Culinary Series will spotlight a noteworthy chef and winemaker who will work in conjunction with the esteemed Karisma Hotels & Resorts team of Michelin star restaurant-trained chefs and sommeliers to provide guests with interactive epicurean experiences. Special events will include access and insight into highly sought-after wines, vertical tastings, educational classes with sommeliers and winemakers, cooking courses, special pairing and an exclusive Guest Chef and Winemaker Dinner.

A number of Cancun’s hotels and resorts offer its guests varied culinary activities and the chance to experience the destination’s finest restaurants. Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach Cancun will celebrate local artists and highlight their work to guests and residents of Cancun with a “Wine and Art Pairing” available on the first Thursday of each month. Recognized wineries will offer complimentary tastings of their finest wines and offer guests the chance to purchase their favorite vintage. Guests will also be able to chat with the artists and buy the art on display.

Fiesta American’s top restaurant, Le Basilic, was just awarded the AAA Five Diamond Award for the seventh year in a row. Both Fantino and The Club Grill of The Ritz-Carlton Cancun were also AAA Five Diamond recipients.

Visitors can also try their hand at creating delicious meals and learn new cooking and wine pairing techniques at The Little Mexican Cooking School at Casa Caribe in Puerto Morelos. In conjunction with La Europea and Cordon Bleu School of Gastronomy, Casa Caribe will host seven classes every Friday from February 1 to April 19. These two hour lessons add a delicious alternative to any trip and only costs around $30 per class.

Wine aficionados can also find their perfect pairing at Secrets The Vine Cancun, which boasts a wine cellar of 3,500 options and offers a wine tasting area for its guests to sit back and enjoy the fine array available.

With Cancun’s abundance of wine and dining options it is no surprise why the first Cancun-Riviera Maya Wine & Food Festival had such success in bringing together extraordinary chefs, sommeliers and fans from all over the world in a celebration of food, wine and simple pleasures.
