20/09/2012Cancun Sunbelt Senior Tour 2012

The Cancun Sunbelt Senior Tour is returning to Moon Palace in October to stage their tour championship to conclude the 2012 season.

The tournament was the culmination of a year long schedule where Senior Professionals have competed to earn a spot in this weeks tour championship. All of the top ten players on the money list are here and many of the players in the field this week are past PGA Tour and Champions Tour Players.

The Cancun Sunbelt Senior Tour has been very successful at grooming professionals to go on to great success on the Champions Tour or European Senior Tour. Just this year Barry Lane of England won two of our tour events in preparation for his season in Europe this summer. He parlayed those two wins on the Cancun Sunbelt Senior Tour into a European Senior Tour win in Wales, a 3rd place finish in the British Senior Open and two other second place finishes to catapult him to the top of the money list so far this year.

Other great players in the field will be last years Tour Championship winner and 2011 season money leader, Jim Chancey, who has played on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour for over 35 years. Also joining him will be Tom Eubank, two-time winner this year and current leader on the season money list along with Javier Sanchez, originally from Mexico and winner of three events in 2011. Dave Rummells, a life member of the PGA Tour with 2.2 million in earnings is expected to return along with veteran PGA Tour player and 5-time winner Danny Edwards.

The Cancun Sunbelt Senior Tour was known simply as the Sunbelt Senior Tour until 2011 when the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau stepped up to sponsor the tour and allow the tour to promote Cancun and Mexico as a fantastic golf destination. “The golf professionals have been excited about returning to Cancun this year. They had a great experience during last years Tour Championship and all of them loved the Moon Palace Resort. The Mexican Hospitality has definitely lured them back and we should have a much larger pro-am this year as well.”

The people in charge of the Cancun CVB had a great vision of promoting Cancun and Mexico to golfers all across the east coast. There support has allowed this event to become the largest in the tours history. The Champion will take home $12,000 and a free one week vacation to Palace Resorts. Palace Resorts has also played a big role in this event. “With a world class golf course and resort, Moon Palace is a great venue for out Tour Championship” according to Eubank. “This course is extremely challenging but very fair and it is in great condition. The staff has done an outstanding job to work with our Tour and create a great atmosphere to crown the Champion for 2012.

There are openings for the pro-am so if anyone is interested in playing golf with the professionals please email tournament director, Tom Eubank at tom@charityproamtour.com.
