Aside from the destination accolades, the World Travel Awards also honored Dreams Cancun Resort & Spa as “Mexico’s Leading All-Inclusive Resort” and “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Family Resort.” The Cancun Center was noted as “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre.” Rio Secreto, a nearby and popular eco-tour that includes an underground river and large-scale system of caves, was named “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Green Expedition.”

World Travel Awards aims to encourage excellence in the international travel and tourism industry. A group of industry experts in areas such as customer relations, creativity, quality of service, standards, guest satisfaction and product innovation determine the annual nominations. A yearlong campaign, the voting process encourages participation from travel professionals around the world and recently, in 2009, was opened to the public for participation.

Cancun is a multicultural destination where people from all over the world go to bask in the sun on powdery-sand beaches, relax at world-class hotels, swim in the turquoise ocean water, enjoy one of the world’s most important gastronomic destinations, visit ancient Mayan temples and experience unparalleled adventure activities.

Now is the ideal time for travelers to experience Cancun as dozens of special events and activities will take place from now until December 21 that invite visitors to explore Cancun’s culture and heritage while celebrating the destination’s rebirth in the year 2012, which closes out the traditional Mayan calendar. Just as New York City’s Times Square is the most exciting place to ring in a new year, Cancun is the prime locale to celebrate the launch of a new era.

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau invites visitors to the CVB’s web page to stay informed of news and events, as well as hotels, spas, and restaurants throughout Cancun that will present new and exciting products and festivities to honor the Mayans.
