22/05/2012Governor of the State of Quintana Roo On Two-Day Tour in Texas to Strengthen Bonds Between Two States, Discuss 2012 Tourism Opportunities and Security Issues

Roberto Borge, Governor of the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico, just completed a successful two-day visit to Texas where his top objective was to strengthen bonds with local authorities, businessmen and opinion leaders.

Governor Borge hosted summits in Dallas on May 15, and in Austin on May 16, which included roundtable discussions, press conferences and high profile meetings, along with cabinet members and the director of the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau, Jesus Almaguer, and the director of the Riviera Maya Tourism Board, Dario Flota.

As President of the Tourism Committee of the Mexican Governors’ Association, Governor Borge highlighted the state of Quintana Roo’s tourism priorities and business opportunities, conveying a good will message to the people of Texas and inviting them to speak about the great and positive things that his state has to offer.

While in Dallas on May 15th, Governor Borges was invited as guest of honor to Love Mexico, a yearly event that showcases Mexico’s premier wedding and romance products; where he promoted the extensive offering of the Mexican Caribbean for destination weddings and honeymoon in front of wedding planners and other industry professionals. He also participated in a press conference with Texas media, followed by his participation as guest speaker in the luncheon held by the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce, where he addressed important tour operators, local businessmen and authorities.

On May 16, Governor Borge also attended a presentation hosted by Global Austin and the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Attendees included Port of Galveston authorities, members of the media and the diplomatic community, representatives from the University of Texas and other academic institutions.

To conclude his visit, Governor Borge held an important meeting with Governor Rick Perry from the State of Texas, in order to discuss their common agenda in Tourism, security issues, commerce and politics.

As part of the special announcements during this 2-day program, the delegation from Quintana Roo was joined by singer John Michael Montgomery, famed country superstar, who promoted his participation at the upcoming Cancun Coyote Country Music festival, taking place in Oasis Cancun Hotel from June 28th to July 5th, 2012. The festival will also feature concerts by Montgomery Gentry, Colt Ford, Bo Bice and Josh Gracin.
