New flights to Cancun from Paris and Moscow have been confirmed

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) participated in three international tourism fairs this month in various locations throughout the world, such as Moscow, Paris & Mexico City, in an effort to strengthen the destination’s presence along Europe and Mexico.

The Cancun CVB was present at the International Fair of Tourism and Leisure Break 2011, during the Top Resa International Fair in Paris, and the International Tourism Fair of the Americas (FITA) in Mexico City. Business meetings were held to create closer trade relations with wholesalers and airlines, in the hopes of increasing the number of visitors that visit Cancun.

During the XVII edition of the International Tourism and Leisure Break-2011, held from September 21-24th in Moscow, the Director General of the Cancun CVB, Jesus Almaguer Salazar held business meetings with Russian wholesalers and representatives from Transaero and Aeroflot – two of Russia’s most established airlines. Transaero is planning on adding a second weekly flight between its Moscow - Cancun route; while, Aeroflot has planned its inaugural flight between Moscow and Cancun for this October 30th.

At the 33rd edition of the Top Resa Fair, held from September 20-23rd in Paris, the Cancun CVB, in conjunction with the Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) and a delegation of hoteliers, successfully repositioned Cancun’s image within the European market; especially in France, which is a market that is expected to grow significantly with the opening of a new Paris-Cancun route by Air France.

The Cancun booth, one of the busiest at the fair, was visited by Miss France 2011, Laury Tylleman, who announced to the media and fair participants that the 33 contestants of the next Miss France competition will be visiting Cancun, where they will enjoy the gastronomy, beaches, and Mayan culture; scenes from their trip will be broadcasted on the grand finale of the famous beauty contest.

Moreover, to strengthen its leadership in the domestic market, the Cancun CVB was also involved in the second edition of the Tourism Fair of the Americas (FITA), an event that took place from September 22-25th. At FITA, together with the Cancun Hotel Association, Cancun had important meetings with tour operators to ensure growth in the upcoming winter season from the domestic market, which represents 30 percent of total visitors each year.

Finally, the Cancun CVB pointed out that tourism fairs organized in major cities around the world generate a significant flow of information between the destination and wholesale operators that directly promote the destination to specific markets and potential visitors. Participation in such events is a highly profitable investment in both the medium and long term.
