31/03/2011Cancun Is Awarded In Russia As Best Destination In The Caribbean, North And South America

The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is proud to announce that Cancun was awarded the award as Best Destination in the Caribbean, North and South America by Travel.ru, one of the top three online travel agencies in Russia at the International Tourism and Travel Fair in Moscow (MITT), that took place on March 16th to the 19th.

Cancun CVB Director of Promotions, Jorge Luis Tellez, accompanied by the Ambassador of Mexico to Russia, Alfredo Perez Bravo, received the Travel.ru Star Prize, which awards Cancun as the best destination in the region according to votes by the readers of the website, key in influencing growth between the end-user and Russian tour operators and airlines.

As part of the tourism fair in Moscow, the Cancun CVB thanked the work of the Mexican Embassy in Russia for its efforts to expedite visas allowing Russians to visit Mexico, which has increased the number of Russian tourists to the country from 1,500 visitors in 2007 to over 30,000 in 2010; many of whom have chosen the Mexican Caribbean as their favorite place to vacation.

Transaero Tours, along with Transaero Airlines and Southcross airlines were thanked for operating direct flights Moscow-Cancun-Moscow, which have greatly influenced the influx of tourism.

As for the participation at the 2011 MITT, the CVB noted the presence of hotels and businesses from the Mexican Caribbean at the event, which took place at the Moscow Expocenter, that helped encourage an interest in Cancun to many Russian travel operators and agents as the premier beach destination of the Caribbean, North and South America.
