22/09/2010Alejandro Valverde Comfirms That He Will Participate In The 2010 Cancun Cycling Challenge

The Tour of Spain winner, Alejandro Valverde will be giving the starting signal for the first edition of the 2010 Cancun Cycling Challenge which is being held October 30 with the participation of a large number of international cyclists , announced the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB).

Renowned Spanish cyclist, winner of the UCI Pro Tour in 2006 and 2008, confirmed his participation in this event along with 30 other celebrities from the cycling world such as Oscar Freire, three-time world-route champion; Ivan Basso, Giro d’Italia winner, Alexander Vinokourov and brothers Frank and Andy Schleck, the latter being the Tour de France runner-up in 2009 and 2010.

At a recent press conference held at the Cancun Center, the Director of the Cancun Mountain Bike Association (MTB), Alberto Cardenas announced the attendance of other famous athletes like Samuel Sánchez, Román Kreuziger, Christophe Moreau, José Iván Gutiérrez, Francisco Mancebo, Rui Faria Da Costa, Alexander Kolobnev, Christophe Le Mevel, David García, Peter Sagan, Daniel Oss, Juraj Sagan, Beñat Intxausti, Serafín Martínez, Sosep Jufre and Gonzalo Rabuñal.

Accompanied by Erandeni Abundis, Cancun CVB Public Relations Manager and Alicia Mateos, Puerto Cancun Public Relations, Alberto Cardenas reminded attendees that the Cycling Challenge will not be a competition but a massive bike ride, which will take place mostly in the brand-new development of Puerto Cancun. The tour will take place in a 10.2 km long circuit.

For this great event, conducted by the organizers of the Vuelta Chihuahua Internacional, MTB, Puerto Cancun and with the support of the Cancun CVB, we have are counting with the participation of a large number of people who follow this sport, who can go the circuit together with worldwide leading figures in the cycling world.

With the slogan Riding for a Cause, the Cancun Cycling Challenge will donate a portion of the proceeds on behalf of the Mexican Red Cross Delegation, which will also be collaborating to provide care for the large number of participants in this unique ride hosted in Cancun. This is the first time an event like this will be taking place in our Continent.

The MTB Director reiterated that the event will start at 06:00 A.M. on Saturday October 30 and will conclude at 4:00 P.M. The tours will be 10 kilometers for novice riders and children, adult beginners will bike for 30 kilometers, 50 kilometers for intermediate riders, 70 kilometers for advanced riders and 110 kilometers for advanced, experts and elite riders.

Finally, Cancun natives are invited to participate in this important event, since all that’s required is any type of bike and to pay the registration fee, which a portion of will be donated to the Red Cross.
