18/06/2010Share Xcaret and save the sea turtles

Xcaret launches a social media campaign on behalf of the Fundación Flora Fauna y Cultura de México, A.C., for the rescue of sea turtles.

Xcaret, Cancun’s eco archaeological park, which has a commitment to Mexican nature and culture, invites visitors to join to the sea turtles preservation effort in the Mexican Caribbean through the Xcaret fan page on Facebook.

For each person who becomes a fan on Xcaret’s page on Facebook, the park will donate $1.00 MXN to the Fundación Flora Fauna y Cultura de México, A. C., for sea turtle preservation, particularly of the loggerhead and green sea turtles, both endangered species which nest on Quintana Roo’s shores.

On June 1st Xcaret set up a Wi-Fi access point at its Gran Tlachco Theater, where the celebration “Xcaret Mexico Espectacular” is performed each sunset. This way, our visitors can share photos, video and experiences on social media, particularly Facebook.

It’s been 8 years since Fundación Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México, A. C., took charge of the Sea Turtle Program, which includes the marking of turtles by the autografting procedure, and includes work on offspring initiation, rehabilitation and environmental education.

Seven of the eight sea turtle species that exist in the world nest on México’s beaches. Four of them come to Quintana Roo’s coast. The diversity of our coastal environments offers the ideal conditions for their feeding, rest and reproduction.

The beaches of the Mexican Caribbean are the most important for loggerhead and green sea turtle nesting in Mexico and among the most important in the entire world. Nonetheless, irrational fishing, the plundering of nests and the destruction of turtle habitats by human activity have resulted in the sea turtles becoming endangered species.

Xcaret intensely and continuously supports the efforts of the Fundación Flora Fauna y Cultura de México, A. C., in their efforts to rescue these ancient species. Join this noble cause. Share Xcaret on Facebook and save the sea turtles.

Today, Xcaret’s Facebook page has 3, 222 fans. We’ll be keeping tabs on our new fans during this coming summer. Join us un this count and invite your friends to take part of this campaign.
