24/03/2010Witness the Feathered Serpent during the Spring Equinox at Chichen Itza

Located just a short two-hour drive from Cancun, is the archeological site of Chichen Itza, one of the great remains of the Mayan civilization and named one of the Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.

In its Kukulcan pyramid, also known as “El Castillo,” tourists will be able to witness during the Spring Equinox, which takes place March 20th, the descent of the Feathered Serpent. The Mayans, brilliant astronomers, used precise numerical calculations and measurements to create this pyramid and as a result you can see this magnificent event that happens as the sun casts its rays on the NE stairway of the Kukulcan pyramid, using light and shadow to creating an effect that resembles a serpent going down the pyramid.
