The Hotel Association of Quintana Roo and the Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau would like to invite you to participate in the:

International Journalism Awards – Cancun 2009

The Awards will take place according to the following Terms & Conditions:

1) The competition is international, and open to all professionals and collaborators from the mass media, without any geographic limitation.

2) The theme of the contest is Cancun, which is to appear as a central element in all material/articles submitted.

3) The material/articles should contribute to strengthen Cancun’s image as a tourist destination by one or more of the following reasons:

A) Material/Article provides new elements of reference to Cancun as a tourist destination.

B) Material/article contributes substantially to the global identification of
Cancun as a unique tourist destination.

C) Material / article had a notable impact on that particular market/country.

4) The material/articles must have been broadcasted or published in the public media, during the period 1st January to 31st December 2008.

5) The competition will take place in three categories:

I) Printed
II) Radio, TV
III) Internet (websites)

6) According to the opinion issued by the jury, the following prizes will be given in each of the above categories:

First prize $ 5 000.00 American Dollars
Second prize $ 2 500.00 American Dollars
Third Prize $ 1 000.00 American Dollars

7) Without limiting the number, the jury may award ‘Honour Mentions’
to all works that deserve this recognition. These will be given in the form of ‘Medal of Honour’ and ‘Diploma’.

Where there is no entry for a particular category, the jury will then declare that category void.

8) Works must be submitted in the following formats:

A) Printed: 3 copies, accompanied by a copy of the original.
B) Radio and television: 3 copies on CD or DVD, with a report with full details of the original transmission (date, time, duration, agenda, etc.).
C) Web sites: 3 copies on DVD, with a document confirming details as to how to locate it on the Internet.

9) Work must be submitted by post to the head office of the:

Deadline: 31st January 2009

For works submitted by post or courier the shipment date or postmark will be taken into account. All submissions must be accompanied by a sealed envelope which clearly indicates the postal address, phone and e-mail address of the entrant, as well as the respective media.

10) The jury will announce its decision through the national media
on 11th February 2009. Jury’s decision is final.

11) The Awards Ceremony will be held on the 21st February 2009, in Cozumel,
during the closing ceremony of the VII National Tourism Forum.

The coordinators (Hotel Association of Quintana Roo and Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau) will cover travel expenses of awarded journalists plus one partner.

12) The jury shall consist of the following persons:

The President of the Hotel Association of Quintana Roo
The Director of Cancun Convention & Visitors Bureau
The Dean of Universidad del Caribe
The Dean of the Universidad Anáhuac Cancun
The Dean of the Universidad LaSalle Cancun
The General Coordinator of the National Tourism Forum.

13) All matters not mentioned in these terms and conditions will be resolved by the Organizing Committee of the International Competition of Journalism CANCUN.
