27/11/2008Mexican Caribbean Golf: The New Green Paradise

Currently features 10 quality golf courses in operation, created by world class designers such as Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Robert von Hagge, Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman and P.B. Dye.

The Mexican Caribbean will generate more than 200,000 rounds of golf in 2008.

This new Golf Paradise has already been host to International tournaments like The Mayakoba Golf Classic Riviera Maya - Cancun (the first PGA Tour Event to be held outside of the United States or Canada), The Iberostar Riviera Maya Open Canadian Tour and the Mayakoba Junior Golf Classic
(The American Junior Golf Association’s only event in Mexico).

Important local events have also developed due to the influence and impact of golf in the region. Golf PARa Todos is a fun, educational program that is helping the local community learn the game of golf and
its ideals. The program encourages the active participation in the game by not only golf fans but also those who have only been spectators before. Hosted by El Camaleón, Mayakoba, Golf PARa Todos is a monthly community program presented by the PGA TOUR Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Golf PARa Todos is open to anyone of any age and every level of golf knowledge. The only requirement is a desire to learn more about golf and how to enjoy the game!

The Mexican Caribbean is Mexico’s destination with the most growth and it is projected to have a minimum of 20 premiere golf courses in operation within the next 5 years.

By the end of 2009 the following golf courses are scheduled to be open and reserving tee times: Riviera Cancun, Supported by two prestigious companies; the signature of Palace Resorts, and the signature of the legendary Jack Nicklaus, one of the best players and golf courses designers of all the times. Riviera Cancun has a Course Rating of 76.2 and a Slope Rating of 146, and is carved from the terrain’s natural contours. Besides boasting of strategic bunkering, immaculate greens, and stunning
fairway layouts, there are beautiful wooden bridges, a spectacular Mexican-Contemporary Club House, and “Tasiste” native palm trees to add to the enjoyment of the tranquility of this natural reserve. These are
some of the many elements that make this course a visual stunner.

Bahía Príncipe, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., this resort will feature 27 Championship holes and a 9 hole, par 3 course, as well as a golf academy.

Cancun Country Club, This complex will consist of 2 Championship 18 hole golf courses, one designed by Tom Fazio and the other by Nick Price. Both will be developed to the standards and requirements of the TPC (Tournament Players Course) network, which will make these two the first golf courses outside of the United States to receive this certification. The driving range, which will be the largest in Latin America, will occupy an area of 10 hectares and will be constructed to the specifications of the PGA Tour. A golf academy will also be part of this impressive golf facility.

Puerto Cancun, Tom Weiskopf, a winner of various golf course design awards as well as a British Open Champion, has designed Puerto Cancun. This Championship Golf Course is spread over 75 hectares and is a challenging design featuring narrow fairways, strategically placed water hazards, creatively designed greens well protected by treacherous bunkers, with beautiful views of the ocean.
